The Futility of Debating Grace
One of Harry Tick's blogs, "Heretics 'R' Us", had a great post from 2004 on the futility of arguing about Grace. I believe it bears repeating. By the way, I'm constantly amazed at how thoughtful and well written are the posts from our blogging community. Here's the link to Harry's post:

yes i completely agree with the futility of arguing about Grace. however i believe there is a place for challenging hypocrisy & justification by works in situations where someone is being harshly judged. examples include the woman who was about to be stoned. when we become self-defensive & self-justifying then yes, it's futile. but in defense of someone being persecuted by the legalists? maybe Grace calls for a vigorous response here. i may be wrong and hope others respond with their insights. till later, ruZ\
Yep, it's kind of like coming to the realization that it isn't necessary for us to judge the judges.
Now if I could just always practice what I preach.
"Now if I could just always practice what I preach."
That's that hardest part for me too......
Good stuff. This was particularly important to me today, as I was recalling some times when I've tried to justify grace before others in the past, according to their standards of what counts as something worth accepting. I've been trying to simplify, to get to the core, the meat, and to try to stay with it. How does one best convey grace to his neighbors? I suppose it is by having grace?
This is very true. Christ argued with no man. If they were unreceptive to His point of view, then He moved on and respectfully allowed them to believe a lie.
Arguing and debating have never been very beneficial. Stirs up anger and defensiveness. I present my views, but I also must respect the views of others... I believe this is good ethics. We cannot be forceful with souls.
PS. Basically, never losing our cool is important. Remain calm and kind in the face of opposition. Even Christ felt righteous indignation, but He did not sin.
Just to point out, that post was from Dave. Heretics 'R' Us was a group blog that was defunct for a time. I resurrected as many of the posts as I could find. In fact, I was trying to find the lost posts again when I stumbled across your blog.
I'll let Dave know you enjoyed his thoughts when I see him next!
