Hell Houses

As most of you know, churches all over the country are setting up "Hell Houses" for Halloween to as they say, "scare the Hell out of kids". These "Hell Houses" come in kit form for the church to build for themselves, for only $299!! The object, of course, is to run kids through the "house", simulating Hell with all it's horrors. Frightening them to the point that they will "accept" Christ and be "saved". I was reading in the local paper all the details about the local churches who are participating. The details, complete with pictures, almost brought tears to my eyes. The "fear" factor is the major part of this idea. How very sick this is. What kind of gospel relies on fear to gain followers? The Father and His Son must be very proud of these people. It really hurts my heart to see these tactics used on young people as a way of dispensing the "gospel". What's wrong with this picture????

Hi Don

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just read your story. My nephew has chosen a male partner and loving my nephew is easy. I have a friend who sexually abused both his children, went to jail, repented. He is still my friend. Is there anything that can separate us from the love of God. I say nothing. If Christ is in me, than I should be able to love as He loved.

The "hell house" Wow what will they think of next.

Hi Don

Me again, I did some looking around at the Hell House. It is so sad. The saddest thing ever...

Here is a quote from the last scenes "But Jesus will turn to them in a loud echoy voice and proclaim for all the room to hear: "You think you have just seen the Hell that awaits you? Ha! Wait till you see what the Father, me and the Holy Ghost have REALLY cooked up for you! An eternity of torture so brutal it will make what you have just seen look like a little fairy picnic! And don't come crying to me when you get there! Landover Baptist gave you the chance to be saved and you never took it. Never even picked up a pre-printed tithing envelope conveniently located by each exit! Get thee Hence you unsaved worthless Sinners!

Before leaving heaven they are given the opportunity to pray a prayer of salvation, and to also visit or pray further with a counselor. If they refuse to accept Christ, they are forced back into Scene 6 where they will enter a hidden door into Scene 6b. In this scene they will witness a deranged lust-filled homosexual raping a live chicken. The chicken will then be be-headed, de-feathered, and cooked. The unrepentant souls will then be given the choice of eating the unholy chicken or going forward to scene 7. If they refuse to eat the chicken, there is another scene, Scene 6c. This scene is the reason for the medical waver forms that an individual must sign before entering Hell House. Unrepentant souls will be beaten and whipped until they confess Christ (come early for preferred seating on the other side of the two-way mirror to witness this miracle of faith). It is an unforgettable 20 minutes. For some, an unforgettable night."

That is so sad and sick. I can't bear to read anymore of it.

Lori-
Did you Google "Hell House"? I had heard of it before, but most on my info came from the local newspaper which interviewed some of the churches "doing" Hell House. Let us know where you got ur info. I read some of the interviews with the church members who were participating in the deal. They were almost giddy at being able to participate and scare the hell out of the kids. It was sick. They had pictures of the adults in horror makeup and all!

Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that Landover Baptist is a spoof site that mocks fundamentalists. That article is hyperbole intended to make the same point you're making here. I don't know the link to the site, but if you google Landover Baptist you'll find the website, which is actually sort of humorous.

Have a great day!

Yea Don, it is sad how many churches use fear as the primary tool for evangelizing. These "Hell Houses" do such a dis-service to the gospel of grace and peace, especially in the impressionable minds of young children.

Many of us were taught, by this kind of doctrine, to first see God as an angry God who will destroy most of His creation.

I will concur with Anonymous though. Landover Baptist and their web site on "Hell House" is but a spoof of the religious right.

hi don, I used to belong to a church that did this in order to scare the "hell" out of people. i now regret ever being involved in it. i don't remember anyone getting saved, but i remember a lot of folks getting extremely pissed off for being lured into a setting like that.

Hi Nancy-

That church wouldn't be out on 1604, the north loop, would it? I'm thinking Hagee.....

Nancy in San Antonio:
No, Hagee is strange enough with his super mega church and his big house up in The Dominion, but I belonged to a little cultic sect called The Potters House (not TD Jakes) also known as The Door.

My daughter just went to a Hell House last night, thinking is was a fun haunted house for Halloween. It turned out to be all about eternal damnation and how to avoid it.

They even simulated a liberal congregation listening to a minister talking about love and acceptance of others, including gays. Then up popped the devil who shrieked that this was "my church." Conclusion: All this peace and love stuff comes from the pit of hell.

My daughter has already had some bad church experiences and does not currently profess Christianity. This certainly didn't help matters.

Well I on the other hand think these Hell houses are a great idea. I just went to one last night. And I'm searching the internet to try to find more. Because these tours portray scenes that could happen in real life and give people just a small glimpse of what it is like to be in Hell. You have demons following you whispering things in your ear, loud noises, people crying and screaming wanting out and wanting a second chance in life. There was one scene about these 4 teenagers who were driving drunk home from a party...they wrecked and all died and went to hell. Well I'm 19 years old and I can tell you right now I had plans to go to a halloween party and get drunk on Friday and probably drive home until I saw that last night. After they take you through Hell, you take a tour through Heaven and that is also just a small glimpse of how awesome Heaven will be. They give you a chance at the end to accept Christ into your heart. I have gone to this church since I was about 5 years old and have seen thousands of people be saved. People need to be woken up and realize that Hell IS real...and these "hell houses" or "hereafter house" as they call it, do just that. It is not to scare kids.

Hello SteveJ, do you know the name of the church that your daughter went to? I only ask because I'm a student at UTSA and am doing research on "hereafter" or "hell house" churches. Any help would me much appreciated.
